RSP Dominates Kathmandu Seats in Nepal House Election




Kathmandu, March 7 — The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has secured major victories across several constituencies in Kathmandu in the latest House of Representatives election.

According to the Election Commission of Nepal, RSP candidates won most of the seats in the capital with large vote margins over their rivals.

Key Victories in Kathmandu

In Kathmandu-1, RSP candidate Ranju Neupane secured a strong victory, marking a major breakthrough for the party in the constituency.

In Kathmandu-2, Sunil KC won the seat with 34,238 votes.
His closest rival, Nepali Congress candidate Kabir Sharma, received 8,874 votes.

In Kathmandu-4, Pukar Bam was elected with 29,142 votes, defeating Nepali Congress candidate Sachin Timalsena, who secured 8,824 votes.

Similarly, Sasmit Pokharel won Kathmandu-5 with 30,737 votes, defeating Nepali Congress candidate Pradeep Paudel, who received 9,159 votes.

RSP Vice-Chairperson Dol Prasad Aryal secured victory in Kathmandu-9 with 35,093 votes.

In Kathmandu-10, Pradeep Bista won the seat with 37,469 votes.

Meanwhile, Ganesh Parajuli secured victory from Kathmandu-7 with 27,805 votes.

Strong Support for RSP in the Capital

The results show a strong wave of support for the Rastriya Swatantra Party in Kathmandu.

Political observers say urban voters, especially young people, have increasingly supported newer political parties that promise reform and transparency.

Nationwide Election Context

Nepal recently held nationwide parliamentary elections to elect 275 members of the House of Representatives.

The seats are divided into:

  • 165 seats through the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system
  • 110 seats through proportional representation (PR)

Nearly 19 million voters were eligible to vote across the country.

Election officials say vote counting is still ongoing in some constituencies, while final results are expected soon.

The strong performance of the RSP in Kathmandu highlights a changing political landscape in Nepal.
