Kathmandu, February 7, 2026 — Veteran Nepali actor Sunil Thapa, one of Nepal’s most iconic and beloved film stars, passed away on Friday at the age of 68 while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu. Thapa’s death marks a profound loss for the Nepali film industry and audiences across South Asia.
Thapa was receiving medical care at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali when his health suddenly worsened. Doctors suspect a cardiac arrest as the cause of his death, according to hospital sources.
Born on May 19, 1960, in Dang, Nepal, Sunil Thapa began his journey in cinema with a passionate interest in arts and performance that blossomed into a remarkable career spanning more than four decades.

He first appeared in films in the early 1980s and quickly became known for his powerful screen presence and versatility. His early work included appearances in Hindi cinema before he made a lasting impact on Nepali films.
